As the season gets close to finishing, we move to china for the Zhuhai circuit, this race is gonna have some tricky weather as well and this good track should provide some tough racing!

Raising video card up

Hey there guys

I'm looking for some advice on moving my video card up away from the motherboard so that I can get at the SATA ports which are underneath it.

My case is an Antec Three Hundred - http://store.antec.com/Product/bencl...5-45003-4.aspx

The motherboard I currently have is this one - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...d=3412#utility

It's shorter than my old Asus motherboard (the one listed in my sig, which got replaced twice, once with the same model) and thus I have 1 less PCI-e x16 slot and less room in general, so I have the problem below.

The red lines on the pic are where my GPU sits, a Sapphire HD5870. As you can see it covers 3 of the SATA ports.

I've been looking at getting one of these to solve the problem - http://linitx.com/product/10538

It's a PCI Express x16 extender. It will raise the GPU up by 0.8" which should allow me to get at the SATA ports, although I'll probably have to bend the cables over at 90 degrees under the GPU still as I can't use SATA cables with 90 degree angled heads on them, for obvious reasons if you look at the configuration of the SATA ports on the motherboard - dumb planning by Gigabyte if you ask me.

Although I'm not entirely certain of how to secure the GPU as obviously it'll be higher up and the screws which fit into the chassis won't be long enough, I guess I'll have to use longer screws...

Anyhoo I'm just wondering if I'll encounter any problems like loss of power, FPS issues when gaming or anything like that - or if this solution will even work?

So if anyone can offer me some advice I'd greatly appreciate it as I would really like to get at those SATA ports that are under my GPU.
