Ron, just so you know that looking at the result files the positions from 12th through to 20 are as such.
12 - Joni Jurmu 13 - Dominiek 14 - Raz 15 - Mikko Skinnari 16 - Richard Bhamb 17 - [GC]Professor 18 - [GC]Fernando Rees 19 - Toni Niemi 20 - Glennyboy1 Not sure how much that changes your results. Greg

First off, Joni had a crash and pitted on the last lap. While in the pits he hit escape never finishing the race. So that (in my mind) should but him in 14th. Highest lap place with a DNF. That would move Raz and Dominiek up one to 12th and 13th since they did finish although two laps back. Then the rest of the list all had DNF's for one reason or another. Mikko and Richard both got DQ'd so that does put them last in order of there DQ's.

joni did one more lap than me and dominiek , technically he "crossed" the finish line in his 19th lap in front of us , thats were he "earned" his points, ..
btw , just watched the replay , and jj earns at least some maximum respect for jet-fighter-pilot-reactions , not knocking me dead to the ground in lap 1 .... |

Guys, this race will probably be his lowest scoring race so the points will be dropped anyway...

How does "fastest lap" jump you above others that finished ahead of you?

Don't know if it does or doesn't... if "fastest lap" gives a point, then it gives a point. I'm behind those with 2 points and in front of those with 0. Hope is clearer now.

Just wondered about the ”dropping lowest score” rule if used at DS races.
Is it just the points for one race that has to be dropped or is it the points for the whole event (both races) ? |

Good question. I'd say one race, so not the whole event?

Agreed.
btw: where's the current standings? I'd like to see if there's a difference between the standings using normal rules and alternatively using some handicap system. I will make fun out of creating those, just to see if it would get us anywhere. |

A point system were people can gain points by running slow is not ideal, but a fair solution might be hard to find. One downside of your idea is that the top 5 from race 1 won’t be rewarded for running through the field in race 2 |

IMHO it would seem a bit unfair to slow down in race 1 just to get at the front in race 2, yet that is the strategy that is seen in real-life sprint races as well.
Given the current 20+ field, we could extend the Race 2 non-qualifier list to P6 or P7 or even P8 to make it more attractive to finish high in Race 1?

Good point, Remco. I would certainly not do this if I had to finish 8th or worse. Still, this is - as Remco pointed out - perfectly normal behaviour in each touring car races as well as Rally and other series. As long as you don't brick-stop and cause trouble for others of course.

Yeah. This also happens in GP2 with the Top8 inverted grid for the second race on Sunday. Drivers fight each other to drop down from 6th or 7th to 8th so they start on pole for the other race, which is shorter. It's funny...

Personally I value overtaking cars and finishing higher in Race 1 (or any race) more than getting (possibly) more points in Race 2. Furthermore, I enjoy starting from the back because it gives more fun in overtaking others. Hence, I don't care for strategy based on maximizing points, I just want to let as many Minis eat my dust as possible

That's the very reason I start each race from the last position. But in DS-2 races it tends to become rather hectic as 5+ very fast drivers try to overtake 15 others rather fast. In this case I like staying out of trouble.

One time I have used the tactics of pretending to make a mistake in the last corners to get rid of that 5th place (shame on me), and I succeeded…….. only to disconnect when leading race 2.
Never ever will I do that again… |
