GCML Season 14 Race #4 - Long Beach 1979

Finally a nice street track again, and surely this is a lovely vintage track with plenty of walls to lose car parts against. It's a 2x8 laps double sprint race, so time to plan your race tactics

Holy pony what a difficult track! It has about half the grip of Jerez 1988, plus walls that won't step aside. It means that you have to steer into corners before being on the race line, i.e. you have to turn into the corners as if driving into the wall and then slide just past the apex

Gearing is also an issue, since overtaking is mostly possible on the straight so long gearing is probably best but that means shifting down to 1st gear in the two hairpins I hate doing that with manual H-shifting

Didn't get further than 1:45:3, so I'm hoping for lots of Minis plastering walls this race

thats an alien time.. 1.46.5. about 10 laps practise. Maybe abarth better here ;)

Short and long gearbox feel very bad. Medium only one for me. And day when I need use gear 1, I go to retirement

Track is very nice, and not so difficult. But this track without grip is bad
What ever setup you use, grip is always 0.

Me and Steve now in the 46's in the abarth, sectors say we could be in the 45's though. what times are people getting in Mini's - i cant drive them!

Some more practice laps, medium gearing this time and managed to scrape in a 1:44:9. Taking the last hairpin in second gear is torture how slowly it accelerates This is going to be.... awkward!

Yeah........ Haven't done a lap yet without the wall preventing me from sliding further.

Then there are to two BIG U Turns... Gotta get your braking just right or else the car slides on this concrete and you miss the turning point - Bugger --

Only a few laps so far in both the Mini and Abarth and I seem to be getting the same times in both.... hummmm

I think the dark side is highly overrated. It's just... dark and sad and miserable
